Year on Purpose 2027
Visioning & Planning for Purpose and Impact
Opens December 2026
Early bird rate applied until November 6
You’ve invested years learning, growing, and preparing to make a difference.
In this next season, the focus changes
from "What am I working toward?”
to “What am I living for?”
The work now is to discern and decide
how to move in alignment with purpose
and in the direction of that calling.
Year on Purpose is designed for honest reflection, critical dialogue, powerful visioning, and purposeful direction setting.
We’ll reconnect with the values, vision, and purpose that are calling you now. We’ll set new intentions, strategic directions, and priorities for action in the coming year.
Year on Purpose is a three-month visioning and planning experience for established social impact professionals ready to revisit and update their vision for the life they’re called to live, and the contribution they aspire to make through their leadership.
The goal isn't (necessarily) a complete reinvention, but an update to your vision and direction and to align with your calling and purpose in this next season.
Why This Circle
As we advance in work and leadership, most “professional development” is geared toward preparing us to perform and serve the goals of the organizations, institutions, and causes we lead.
It becomes more rare to find spaces where the primary purpose is to support and encourage the deeper, personal work of tending to our evolving visions and sense of purpose.
Year on Purpose offers a space to acknowledge and work through the inner questions, uncertainties, and challenges of lifelong learning, growth, and leadership, and to do so in a space that breaks isolation.
Through witnessing each other, offering perspectives, and imagining possibilities together, we get to be supported in our own discernment, and also serve as thought partners, and sources of insight and encouragement to others. Through this reciprocal process, we begin to recognize possibilities for our own lives and impact that we couldn't see alone.
The relationships we cultivate in the Circle may also become lasting sources of friendship, collaboration, and mutual support beyond simply a “professional network.”
Three Months. Three Parts.
Part I — Reflection & Reckoning
Understand the experiences that have shaped your life and leadership up until now, reckon with what's changed, honor what has passed, and realign with the values, priorities, and callings that matter most going forward.
Part II — Vision & Experimentation
Reimagine what's possible for your life and leadership over the coming years, considering not only your work, but also your relationships and wellbeing. Explore different pathways and test promising possibilities through small, real-world experiments to discover what aligns with the life you want to live and the impact you hope to make.
Part III — Alignment & Direction
Bring together what you've discovered to update your life vision and leadership mission, and set a clear intention and direction for your next chapter. Identify the priorities, relationships, projects, and first steps you'll commit to in 2027-2030.
The Process Guide
Alan Wesley Goff
Dialogue Facilitator | Social Justice Educator | Leadership Guide
This Circle grows out of both my professional practice and my own experience of navigating an ever-unfolding vision for my life's work as a social justice educator and facilitator.
For nearly 15 years, I pursued graduate education, doctoral study, and professional opportunities in preparation for a future I envisioned in education and social justice leadership. In 2021, I stepped away from the path that I had been on for nearly a decade. That transition asked me to reconsider not only what I wanted to do next, but how I understood the calling that had guided my life.
This happened in the same moment as the upheaval of the pandemic and racial justice uprisings. That year, I offered and led Flocking Through the Fire, a facilitated cohort for educators of color navigating the profound uncertainties of that moment. That experience confirmed the power of and the need for finding our way through and beyond in connected community.
To this Year on Purpose experience, I now bring more than two decades of learning and practice in social justice education, leadership development, transformative dialogue, and facilitating collective change across schools, universities, organizations, and communities.
My role in this circle isn't to prescribe what our calling should become or decide what direction our lives should take. It's to guide a thoughtful, courageous, and caring process of reflection and discernment while listening deeply, asking questions that challenge and clarify, supporting purposeful experimentation, and helping us translate emerging insights into meaningful intentions, priorities, and next steps.
I believe the work we are each called to contribute matters. And I believe we often discover it shape more clearly in connection with others.
Four Elements.
Generative dialogue sessions with a values-aligned community of peers to critically reflect on your experiences, reimagine possibilities, and realign your vision and priorities.

❋ Real-World Experiments

You’ll Develop: A clearer vision and direction for your next chapter.
Year on Purpose will support you to develop a focused but flexible Life & Leadership Action Plan for 2027–2030: a roadmap for directing your energy, making meaningful choices, and moving toward the life you want to live and the contribution you want to make.
You’ll Experience: Greater clarity and connection.
The circle will be a space to cultivate relationships with like-hearted peers who may become lasting sources of friendship, thought partnership, collaboration, and encouragement beyond the program.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
-
This Circle is designed for mid-career social and environmental impact professionals who feel a strong call to update or reimagine their vision for life, leadership, and impact.
The circle is open to people from different fields and backgrounds such as education, research, law, public health, social work, environmental conservation, arts and culture, spiritual leadership, public service, nonprofit leadership, and community organizing.
What connects participants is a shared commitment to equity, justice, sustainability, collective well-being, and contributing to the common good.
You may be a fit for this Circle if you recognize yourself in many of the following:
You've spent years developing your knowledge, experience, and capabilities in preparation for making a meaningful contribution.
You remain deeply committed to equity, justice, sustainability, community, or collective well-being, even as you reconsider how best to advance those commitments.
You're moving into a season of greater responsibility, leadership, and stewardship, and want to be deliberate about what you dedicate yourself to.
You're beginning to think about your contribution beyond any particular job, title, institution, or professional identity.
You’ve experienced the world change in ways that have complicated the future you once imagined.
You want to make the next chapter of your life count, while also building a life that sustains your well-being, relationships, and quality of life.
You're open to exploring multiple possibilities, questioning assumptions, and testing new directions before making significant commitments.
You're willing to listen deeply, engage honestly across differences, and contribute your perspectives, care, and support to the growth of others.
-
Weekly full circle gatherings form the majority of the program experience, with occasional weeks dedicated to listening and coaching sessions.
Because the experience depends on connection and trust developed from week to week, consistent participation matters.
You should plan to participate in all gatherings and sessions.
You'll also need to make time between sessions for guided reflection, purposeful conversations, and manageable real-world experiments.
The intention isn't to create another overwhelming obligation, but to invite a meaningful investment of attention and action in questions that matter to your life.
-
The Investment is $800
An early bird price of $627 is applied until November 6th.
This includes the complete three-month experience: facilitated group gatherings, the virtual retreat, three private coaching sessions, and guided life-design practices and experiments.
Payment arrangements and a limited number of reduced-rate places will be available, with consideration given to financial need and cohort fit.
You can request consideration for a reduced-rate place in your application. Financial documentation is not required.
-
Not exactly.
The Circle is about discerning the contribution you want to make in the next chapter of your life, and designing a meaningful, sustainable direction for pursuing it.
For some participants, that may involve exploring a new career, professional role, independent practice, or starting an organization.
For others, it may involve approaching existing work differently, becoming more active in a community, strengthening an existing institution, or contributing to a collective effort.
The central question isn't simply what job you should pursue next, but what work, relationships, and commitments deserve your capacities and attention in the years ahead.
-
Dialogue is central to the experience, but it's not the only activity.
The Circle combines facilitated conversation with guided life design, individual coaching, peer listening partnerships, reflection, experimentation, and practical planning.
You'll have opportunities to explore possibilities through small, but impactful real-world actions.
-
No, but you have to want to find out.
You may begin with a strong sense of possibility, several competing interests, or more questions than answers.
The process is designed to help you explore those possibilities, examine what's meaningful and realistic, and develop a direction through reflection, dialogue, and experimentation.
You don't need to arrive with a plan. Developing one is part of what we'll work toward together.
-
The Circle is designed for people who want to examine their future with greater intention, whether or not they're considering an immediate transition.
You may discover that your most meaningful next step is to deepen an existing commitment or bring greater alignment to how you're already living and leading.
-
The facilitated experience concludes in March 2027, but there will be opportunities for group reunion and reconnection, as well as continued individual coaching and support.
The connections and relationships that emerge may continue to develop beyond our formal time together (If you want them to).
-
Begin with the reflective application.
You'll be invited to share a little about your current chapter of life, the questions or possibilities you're exploring, and what draws you to the Circle.
The application is also an opportunity to discern if Year on Purpose would serve you well in this moment.
